Workyard and Timeero both serve mobile workforces, but the center differs. Workyard is oriented toward construction job-site time and job costing. Timeero is oriented toward mobile time, routes, and mileage. The buyer should decide which evidence resolves current field disputes and avoid collecting location simply because it is available.

Compare job evidence with route evidence

Map employee, crew, job, cost code, punch, location, route, travel, mileage, break, offline record, manager edit, approval, payroll destination, and report. Assign purpose, owner, viewer, cutoff, correction, retention, and export.

Workyard may fit when job and cost-code allocation lead. Timeero may fit when route and mileage records are essential. Neither map should automatically determine worked time, reimbursable mileage, payroll treatment, or discipline.

Ask how weak signals, shared vehicles, replacement devices, closed jobs, and late synchronization affect evidence.

Compare the operating model behind the map. A construction supervisor may need crews, jobs, cost codes, and an explanation of where a punch was associated. A mobile-services manager may need routes, stops, and mileage context. Those are not interchangeable records. Decide whether job costing, dispatch review, reimbursement support, or payroll is authoritative for each field, and prevent one correction from silently changing the others.

Review who can create or close a job, edit a route, change mileage, approve time, and retry a downstream transfer. Confirm whether the same person can change source evidence and approve the result. Where separation is required, test the role boundary rather than relying on a permissions summary.

Scenario: an offline crew changes jobs

A crew starts at one job, travels to another, and loses connectivity. Later synchronization contains a location gap, wrong job code, and disputed mileage. The manager has already approved the period.

Workyard may make the construction job and cost correction clearer. Timeero may make route and mileage review clearer. Both should preserve raw punches, sync timing, employee explanation, manager edit, reopened approval, payroll transfer, and corrected reports.

Repeat the scenario when the employee uses a replacement phone and when two workers share a vehicle. The system should not treat device identity as worker identity or vehicle movement as proof that every passenger was working. Confirm how a backup supervisor reviews the exception without gaining unnecessary access to unrelated workers' location history.

Run a field-evidence evaluation

Use fictional workers and locations:

  1. Enter online, offline, travel, mileage, and two-job records.
  2. Create a weak-location gap and wrong job allocation.
  3. Require employee review and manager approval.
  4. Lock the period, synchronize late data, and prevent duplicates.
  5. Reconcile time, location, jobs, mileage, payroll, and reports.
  6. Export records, edits, approvals, settings, maps, and logs.

This publication has not performed the evaluation. Buyers can reproduce it without treating location as automatic wage evidence.

Score the workflow by record clarity, correction effort, employee review, supervisor continuity, downstream reconciliation, and data minimization. Record whether the final export contains raw and corrected values or only the current state. A report that shows the right total but cannot explain the late change is not sufficient for a disputed-record workflow.

Edge case: one signal becomes unquestionable truth

GPS can be incomplete, delayed, device-dependent, or unrelated to whether compensable work occurred. FLSA and privacy requirements depend on facts and current law. Product maps do not prove compliance.

Qualified owners should establish time, travel, mileage, notice, access, employee correction, retention, deletion, and export policies before configuration.

Test account separation and contract exit as well. Location copies may remain in exports, integrations, payroll attachments, or saved manager reports. Define which records must be preserved for an approved purpose, which should be removed, and who verifies that former managers and vendors no longer retain routine access.

Field-system criteria and conclusion

Choose Workyard when job-site and cost-code evidence are primary. Choose Timeero when route and mileage workflows solve the larger problem.

Compare mobile adoption, punches, GPS, jobs, routes, mileage, offline sync, edits, approvals, payroll handoffs, privacy, and exports. The winner helps a manager resolve disagreement without allowing the map to replace review.

Have field and payroll backups reconstruct the same offline day from exported evidence.
