An Asana connection can make time entry easier because work context is already visible, but task structure changes faster than financial or historical records. Harvest, Everhour, and Toggl Track should be evaluated on whether they retain durable time context while letting Asana remain a flexible delivery system.
Buyer constraint: a task belongs to several views
Imagine an agency task appearing in a campaign project, an internal workload view, and a client-delivery portfolio. A user starts a timer from that task, then a manager moves or duplicates it. The time system needs a clear project and client authority instead of inheriting every Asana relationship blindly.
Harvest merits attention for time, budget, billing, and invoicing handoffs. Everhour is relevant when time should sit inside project delivery. Toggl Track fits teams prioritizing low-friction knowledge-work capture. Require current documentation for the exact Asana connection proposed.
Decision criteria for project structure and review
Map workspaces, teams, projects, tasks, assignees, custom fields, clients, time entries, billable status, and approval periods. Inspect timer launch, manual entry, permission scope, duplicated tasks, moved tasks, archived projects, deleted work, user removal, synchronization logs, retry, exports, and support ownership.
Define whether Asana or the time system owns client and billing dimensions. A completed task does not prove approved time, and approved time does not automatically authorize an invoice. Keep those decisions reviewable and separate.
Reproducible mini-check through a task reorganization
Create fictional Asana projects, tasks, and users in approved test environments. Track time from a task, move it, add it to another project, duplicate it, archive its original project, and correct one submitted entry. Remove a user from the project after the period is reviewed.
Compare task identifiers, time history, approval state, budgets, billing candidate reports, and exports. Interrupt synchronization before one edit and verify how the system surfaces and repairs it. Time Tracking Scout has not executed this setup.
Exception and verdict: a duplicate task duplicates context
Suppose an Asana task is duplicated for the next campaign and retains a misleading client or billable mapping. The time tool should require a deliberate classification or expose the inherited value before new time reaches review.
Choose Harvest for billing-centered workflow, Everhour for delivery embedding, or Toggl Track for flexible capture. Reject any connection that lets changing Asana relationships silently rewrite approved time context.
